Redcoat Kennel started as a dream back in the 1970's with the purchase of my
first Irish Setter, Sam. Due to the popularity of the Irish Setters at that
time he was of very poor quality, but I did put the first of many CD's on
him.
The first Irish to carry the Redcoat name was Fleetwood Mac's Major
Redcoat purchased in 1977. He was a gorgeous boy out of the then famous
Starheir's Aaron Ardee. He earned his CD and CDX. He produced the first
litter to all carry the Redcoat name in 1980.
Our first show quality Irish
was purchased in 1986 from Sue Seaman's Rainbow breeding. She became Ch.
Rainbow Stardust of Redcoat CD. She produced two litters, the first of these litters bore
our first homebred champion, Ch. Redcoat Freedom Road CD aka Stanley. Stanley, in my book,
was the perfect Irish Setter: lovely head and coat, the correct size, and a
personality to treasure. We lost him in May of 2002 after almost 13
wonderful years.
Stanley's half-sister, U-CD Redcoat Irish Regardless CD OA OAJ, aka
Jenna, whom we lost in 2007. She earned the title of "The Wonder Dog" because she did so
many things in her life. Besides the show career earning 8 points, the
obedience titles and agility titles she is a registered Pet Partner and an
avid tracker.
There have been many other Irish along the way and two others
in the household presently. Check them out on their individual pages. We
also had a miserable Smooth Fox Terrier, named Redcoat Rebel Rouser CD, in the
1980's and now have Shetland Sheepdogs along with the Irish Setters.
